Skip the Mall. Buy a Llama.
Alternative Gift Market puts unique twist on traditional gift-giving
The Market, open from will feature 13 non-profit organizations offering gifts that can change the world.
Instead of buying yet another ho-hum sweater for Grandma, you might purchase a doll made by an orphan in Zimbabwe, protect native rainforest trees in Brazil, provide a llama for a family in Peru, or food for the hungry and homeless right here in the USA. There are well over 100 projects from which to choose, with many new projects this year. Grandma will receive an attractive card telling her about the gift given in her honor, and she will know that she has helped make a difference in the world.
The Market also will include hundreds of beautiful, moderately-priced handcrafted products such as jewelry, baskets, silk scarves, quilts, decorative and holiday items that promote social and economic progress locally and around the world. Merchandise will be sold by Heifer International, ZimKids, ALDEA, SERRV, African Team Ministries and FPC. A large selection of food items and fairly-traded, shade-grown Equal Exchange coffees, teas, cocoa and chocolate will also be available.
